ON A HOME STUFF BENDER/BROWS/PERFECT AIR DRY COMBO
juicers, vacuums, brow serum, and some shampoo chat.
Hello hi- if you’ve seen any of my instagram stories you may have noticed that since moving I have no personality other than home items/things of that nature. So naturally here we are & hopefully by the time you have received this my personality has come back.
If you know me you know I love a good hunt. Just like searching down the perfect pair of shoes or bag I have the same approach to home things. I’m still figuring out what my vibes are for this new place. If I had it my way it would probably be a full blown Victorian home but I moved into a new building so thats not happening! I like cozy, I like chic but I’m extremely over the minimalism. I can’t help it. I love THINGS.
I keep reminding myself that this is a slow burn and you don’t find all the perfect pieces overnight. I’ve been looking for the perfect lamp (which idk what that even means to me) for 3 weeks every night. Currently looking for a bathroom storage situation that isn’t FUGLY. Which seems to not exist so I’m gonna have to pull a Natalie and get something ridiculous that I somehow make work. Nesting!!!
Things I’m into right now/thoughts:
Wooden Spoon herbs rose colored glasses tincture. It’s that time of year where things can be quite bleak. And depresso. This stuff makes me feel better. I truly believe it works when I’m consistent.
Make Beauty lash & brow serum!!!!!! GORLS LISTEN UP. I’ve seen the most progress on the lashes & some on the brows.
Game changer is the got2b brow gel. (Controversial but i love her)
The rundown on this stuff is: she’s THICK. Literal gel. Sooo. A little goes a very long way. Wipe most of the product off the applicator and brush brows up. This stuff is basically glue. It will not come off until you wash your face. (But comes off with warm water so it’s not ripping your brows off by any means fyi) Now this is not for you if you want soft touchable brows. It won’t leave your brows crunchy but definitely not ~soft~. Also wipe any excess that gets on your skin because it can leave some residue. This tube is huge and will last you forever and is $9. Also great for flyaways.
Should we do a monthly advice/discussion situation amongst myself and maybe a friend or something? Respond to this email, comment, dm if you think yes & then we will figure out the rest. You know I love to chitchat.
Watching: Feud Capote vs the Swans.
Obsessed with my pure lift face thing.
Once again into ilia mascara. Very buildable and showing off the Make Beauty progress.
Forgot how much I needed a shower head filter between moving and winter my scalp has been a mess. 3 weeks in and I finally installed my Jolie and thank gawddddd.
Perfect air dry:
Roz shampoo and conditioner COMBO. (Finger comb conditioner in shower) Put hair in towel for a couple of minutes. (I ❤️ crown affair one). Brush hair.(gently) A little bit of oil on damp hair scrunch it in, let it dry. When dry add a tiny bit more of oil on mids to ends.
My current oil rotation is olaplex or virtue healing oil. When feeling extra dry the Roz styling oil. Roz oil is perfect for people with texture that’s frizzier or coarser. (Too heavy for me unfortunately) The other two are also great but not as heavy. Voila thats it. Also a good haircut will really work wonders. If you feel like the oil isn’t enough try a creamy leave in conditioner like the R&CO sun catcher (smells amazinggggg) or Roz milk serum. (Heavier than the R&CO)
If you’re extra frizzy use the dream coat air dry to top it off.
Side note all of this is also good prep for heat styling and again if you want extra frizz protection the regular dream coat is your gal since it is heat activated.
Back to my home bender stuff
I am annoyingly obsessed with nordic knots rugs now. Rip my bank account. Everyone I asked said they loved theirs and have held up really well with pets & through professional rug cleaning services. A friend has one and I laid on hers for a couple hours on a Sunday morning so naturally I had to get one. Also purchased the cushy pad for underneath it. Very cozy. They have lots of colors and sizes :)
Tip: everyone suggested looking at swatches before as some colors differ from site. I did not bc I was too excited but many advised to.
I cannot get off of Chairish and Etsy. All of my “investment” pieces I have purchased in the past have been from Chairish. Obviously 1st Dibs is amazing but sometimes (most of the time) the price tag isn’t (for me). So I get a lot of inspo from them and then find similar if not same on Chairish or Etsy (which is underrated)
My chairish tips: filter search to local unless you wanna fall in love with furniture in other parts of the world that the shipping costs more than the item.
Put a maximum price on what you’re looking to spend so you don’t end up heart broken when you realize the lamp you want is $17,000 🥲
MAKE OFFERS!!!! You know how it goes. Start low. Counteroffer. But be careful once you offer you’re committing to purchasing if the seller accepts.
Create an account and save all your favorites. Sometimes sellers reach out with some sort of discount after a couple of days. Keep an eye out for that in the emails.
Check how much shipping costs before getting excited & check that the seller doesn’t have shops on other platforms that offer free shipping (popular for smaller items).
Etsy is great for unique items or very niche things. Lots of shops have free shipping and it’s easy to contact the sellers. Just purchased a bed skirt to hide the stuff underneath my bed. Also got a lamp (make sure to check where the lamp is coming from and that it has a US plug 🙃) Definitely read full descriptions as sometimes people sell lamps that aren’t fully functioning.
Also !!!!reverse google image search!!!! an item to see if someone else is listing it for cheaper.
Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, and eBay have some GEMS. Also very helpful when looking for something specific.
While I do have my eye on a Six Penny couch. (2 of my friends have and they’re soooo comfy)…I’m balling on a budget so gonna wait a little for another big purchase but! In the meantime I have an ikea couch that I still love but needed a little something. Therefore I got a couch cover on Etsy to spice things up. This shop makes all sorts of covers in different colors/fabrics & you can get samples before purchasing. Adding some throw pillows/blankets also helped make me feel like it was new :)
Also keeping in mind that this is a rental not my forever home so when I am investing into pieces I’m thinking are these things that are timeless, usable with different looks or in different areas of a home etc.
Keeping that in mind! Not everything has to be super pricey or crazy. There are definitely things that if you know are a very specific dimension or something that is temporary, definitely go for an ikea moment or if its something that ikea makes in a really great way that you can customize go for itttt. I <3 ikea.
I seem to be really late to the Zara home game. While I much prefer to support small independent stores some random things they have are pretty good. Gotta be strategic high low always baby.
Also I freaking loveeee the container store. I will not rant let’s just say you can save lots of space underneath your sink, bed, and bottom of closet.
BREVILLE AIR FRYER
I got the Breville Air Fryer!!! Apparently everyone and their mom loves it. And ahem strongly dislikes the our place one *no shade. It’s got lots of settings and while it does take up some counter space I’m justifying it with all of its functions including SLOW COOKING. That one got me. Then I had the decision if I wanted the regular or Pro version. According to the one million articles I read - the Pro has a dehydrator function. Didn’t need that so went with the regular.
I thought about compiling all the screenshots of the love for this air fryer but got lazy. Just know the people go HARD for the breville air fryer. (Including myself now)
For decor things:
I have been buying things *mostly tchotchkes for my “future home” since I was about 14. Therefore I have the pleasure of shopping my mothers home aka my storage unit with pleasant surprises. Most of it is glassware and silverware if I’m being honest. I’m a secret hoarder of “special pieces” and thank god for my mothers house.
I have two small rugs that I got years ago in Morocco that I’ll now be able to use BOTH at the SAME time instead of switching them out. (I deeply regret not buying more/bigger rugs while there so if you go please get as many as possible.) Also they cost a fraction of what people sell them here for ANYWAYS what I am trying to say is always buy things for your home! Even if you don’t have the space for it. Special pieces specifically. One day you will grow up & move to Brooklyn (like me) or Uptown or become rich and still live downtown & have more than 400sq feet!!!!! And you’ll be able to use the stuff!!
Fave homeware store is Jane cook shop not only because it is owned by one of my close friends (brag) but because it truly is a perfect shop with a little bit of everything. Like silverware, plates, candles, cookbooks, ceramics, all sorts of cloths and things!
Here are my favorites from her store:
(they have more stuff in person & as the unofficial buyer of Jane know that there’s lots of newness coming soon)
Not only are these cuties great for the environment they also help conserve space and great for when your Tupperware disappears and you need to store something. They’re washable and come in different colors/prints.
Cloth napkins. More in store. Also washable.
Kitchen Cloths. Sooo domestic.
This chic pan roasting thing.
Perfect simple mug. You know I love me a mug.
Extra sexy Sabre serving set which makes a great gift.
TOMATO ROOM SPRAY. This stuff right here my friend. Thank me later. Only if you’re into tomatoes though.
Anyways go check out the store. I won’t spoil it all :)
I love actual silverware. (Made of silver) Anytime you’re in a thrift store or second hand store literally anywhere outside of New York City please always check the home section. I always find the prettiest full sets of silverware for so cheap. Yes it is a pain because you can’t throw them in the dishwasher and you have to polish them every once in a while but there are special wipes you can buy that will make it so easy and it’s oddly satisfying. Anyways buy some real/plated silver. Most places will literally throw them out because they don’t sell and they’re usually gorgeous :(
*update: I have been made aware you technically can put silverware in the dishwasher but it might start to tarnish faster (which is a quick fix)
Got this staub Dutch oven in baby blue. This particular color is on sale. Opted for this vs Le Creuset so I don’t have to worry about the interior getting scrapped & ugly.
JUICERS
Apparently we want masticating & cold press for maximum nutrients! These seem to be the contenders: The Omega, the Nama, the Hurom. I have not upgraded mine yet as of now I’m thinking the Omega although the Nama has a tempting sorbet making option..
Last but not least!!! the Brissell two in 1 thing. I know it’s ugly but hear me out. It is a vacuum that also mops your floor and then it collects the dirty water (so you see the nastiness!!!! Brace yourself) instead of just spreading it around. They also make one that does not have the vacuum setting but if I could cut a corner yes I will give you more money for it. My mom has this thing & I would literally eat food off her floor if you let me.
Can’t forget about the trusty Dyson vacuum. P.s. buying these sorts of big purchases from places like bloomies or Nordstrom etc gets you extra points and then they give you big discounts/credit for clothes :) anyways my work here is done.
Also shoutout my Dyson humidifier for not allowing the nyc radiators to take my life.
As alway thanks for reading <3
